The influence of chelating agents on clays in geothermal reservoir formations: Implications to reservoir acid stimulation

Acid stimulation to enhance the permeability of geological reservoirs is oldest technique still in use. sometimes fails due either poor stability acid or an undesirable influence on clay minerals reservoir formation. Among others, a formation govern reservoir. The interaction investigated biodegradable chelating agents (BCA1, BCA2 and BCA3) kaolinite-natural (KN) montmorillonite-K10 (MM) hydrothermal reactor which conditions geothermal are simulated under CO2 environment with temperature 230 οC pressure 85 bars. porisimetry, ATR-FTIR infrared reflectance spectroscopy show changes surface properties structure MM KN turn suggest chemical take place. However, XRD results insignificant KN. ICP-OES, pH, conductivity salinity interactions (dissolution reactions) place both therefore strongly support earlier techniques. that BCA1 BCA3 cause greater dissolution lower precipitation as compared no-BCA. Further, R -values from multiple linear regression pH BCAs’ function groups have strong normalized concentration dissolved ions though p-values insignificant. coefficient values functional more than pH. BCA 3 would be useful acids for improving especially formations contain minerals.
